The BLS reports the Consumer Price Index rose 0.4% in August (SA) and 2.9% over the past 12 months; core CPI (ex food & energy) was +0.3% for the month and +3.1% year‑over‑year. Shelter and food were the largest contributors to the monthly increase; gasoline climbed 1.9% in August.
